Python with AgenticAI Training Session 2026 – Session 10

VGLUG is dedicated to empowering rural college students through technology education.
As part of this initiative, we conduct weekly training sessions on Python With AgenticAI.

  • Python & AgenticAI – Arts(Team 1) &  Arts(Team 2) & Arts (Team 3)
  • Python & AgenticAI – Engg(Team 1) &  Engg(Team 2) & Engg(Team 3)

These sessions focus on practical knowledge of Python, AgenticAI, free and open-source tools, and also include social awareness and community engagement activities.

Session 1: Python Functions:

1. What is a Function?

A function in Python is a block of reusable code that performs a specific task. Instead of writing the same code multiple times, we can write it once inside a function and call it whenever needed.

Real-life example: A calculator can perform addition whenever we enter two numbers. Similarly, a Python function can perform addition whenever we call it.

Types of Functions in Python:

  1. Built-in Functions: Functions already provided by Python, such as print(), len(), sum(), and type().
  2. User-Defined Functions: Functions created by programmers using the def keyword.
  3. Anonymous (Lambda) Functions: Small functions defined using the lambda keyword.
  4. Recursive Functions: Functions that call themselves to solve a problem.
  5. Generator Functions: Functions that use yield to produce values one at a time.

Function Arguments and Return Values:

Students learned how to pass information to functions using parameters and arguments, and how to return results using the return statement.

Example

def add(a, b):
return a + b
result = add(10, 20)
print(result)
Output:
30

Benefits of Using Functions

  • Code Reusability: Write once and use the function multiple times.
  • Readability: Keep programs organized and easy to understand.
  • Modularity: Divide complex problems into smaller tasks.
  • Easy Debugging: Identify and fix errors more easily.
  • Maintainability: Update code with fewer changes.

Conclusion

The Python Functions session helped students understand the importance of reusable code and structured programming. Through examples and hands-on problem-solving, students gained practical experience in defining and calling functions, working with arguments, and returning values.

At VGLUG Foundation, we encourage students to learn programming through practical activities, collaboration, and open-source learning. This session provided a strong foundation for exploring more advanced Python concepts and developing efficient programming solutions.

Session 2 :

Introduction

As part of VGLUG Foundation’s learning activities, students were introduced to Hacktoberfest, an annual celebration that encourages people around the world to contribute to open-source projects. The session focused on understanding the importance of open source, exploring contribution opportunities, and encouraging students to participate in real-world projects.

What Is Hacktoberfest?

Hacktoberfest is a community-driven event that encourages developers, students, and open-source enthusiasts to contribute to open-source software and projects during October. It provides an opportunity for beginners to explore open source, learn from experienced contributors, and collaborate with communities worldwide.

Participants can contribute in different ways, including improving documentation, fixing bugs, reporting issues, writing code, and helping maintain open-source projects.

Why Is Hacktoberfest Important?

Hacktoberfest helps students develop practical technical skills while contributing to projects used by real communities. It encourages collaboration, teamwork, problem-solving, and learning through participation.

VGLUG Foundation and Open Source

VGLUG Foundation encourages students to explore Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), participate in community activities, and contribute to collaborative projects. Introducing Hacktoberfest helps students understand that open source is not limited to experienced programmers; anyone willing to learn and contribute can take part.

Through community learning and hands-on practice, students can develop the confidence needed to participate in open-source communities and support the growth of free and accessible technology.

Conclusion

Hacktoberfest provides a valuable opportunity for students to move beyond classroom learning and experience open-source collaboration. By exploring repositories, improving documentation, fixing issues, and sharing knowledge, students can strengthen their technical skills while contributing to the global open-source community.

VGLUG Foundation continues to encourage students to learn, collaborate, and contribute to the world of Free and Open Source Software.
